The Commission Process: Custom Abstract Art
Welcome to my studio's commission experience. Bringing a custom piece of art into your home is a deeply personal and exciting journey, and I am honored that you are considering my work for your space. Whether you are looking to anchor a room with a vibrant statement piece or bring a sense of calm to your environment, my goal is to translate your personal style or ideal color stories into a one-of-a-kind abstract painting. Below, you will find a detailed breakdown of how we will collaborate from our very first conversation to the final day your painting arrives on your wall.
1. Concept & Palette Consultation
The process begins when you submit an inquiry sharing your desired canvas size, timeline, and a brief description of your goals. From there, we will discuss the emotional tone, energy, and interior design of the room where the piece will live. To align our visions, you will share two or three reference images of my past work that resonate with you, along with your preferred color swatches. Once we agree on the direction, I will provide a final price proposal based on the canvas size and the overall complexity of the project.
2. Contract & Deposit
Once you are ready to move forward, I will send over a simple contract outlining the estimated timeline, pricing structures, and handover terms. To officially secure your spot on my studio calendar and fund the initial raw materials, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. As soon as the deposit is paid and the contract is signed, your project is formally scheduled and work begins.
3. Studio Creation Phase
I will then bring your piece to life in the studio using professional-grade, archival materials. The creation process typically takes four to six weeks to allow for proper layering and drying times. Because abstract art evolves organically on the canvas, I will send you one midway progress update to keep you connected to the journey while trusting the creative process.
5. Final Approval & Handover
Once the painting is dry and finalized, I will send you a high-resolution photo and video of the completed artwork for your final approval. The remaining 50% balance is due at this time. For local clients, you are welcome to schedule a time to pick up your artwork directly from my studio. For non-local clients, your artwork will be safely packaged, fully insured, and shipped straight to your door with shipping fees calculated on the final invoice.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I return a custom commissioned painting?
Because commissions are completely bespoke and tailored to your specific preferences, all deposits and final payments are non-refundable once work has been completed and approved.
Who owns the rights to the artwork?
As the artist, I retain all reproduction and copyrights to the original artwork, including the right to sell prints of the piece. The collector owns the physical painting for personal display.
Can you match the exact colors of my room or fabric swatches?
While I will use your interior photos and swatches as a guide for the overall color palette, art mediums behave quite differently than household wall paint or textiles. My focus is entirely on cohesive color harmony rather than a perfect 1:1 color match.
